Work, Play, Dance, Sing, Dress Up, Eat, and Learn!

This quarter we learned how to tell time, count money, and measure length in Customary and Metric units. We learned about various narrative elements, compare and contrast, cause and effect, synonyms and antonyms, adjectives, pronouns, contractions, multiple-meaning words, the Main Idea of a text, and making inferences based on textual evidence. We researched our family histories and countries of origin. We wrote biographies of important historical figures and drew their portraits. We analyzed fine art and wrote poetry. We learned about water conservation. We painted hot and cool colors based on a Hawaiian legend. We painted our hopes and dreams on t-shirts. We exercised (a lot)! We improved our typing skills. We played ukuleles and learned the elements of dance. We made scientific observations. We planted, pruned, watered, and harvested in the garden. We visited the Sugar Museum and learned about plantation life and the process of making sugar. We read and discussed several nonfiction articles from Time for Kids. We made (and fed) Chinese New Year dragons. We read with our Kindergarden Reading Buddies. We dressed up for Read Across America Day/Week. We danced the Polka and ate quesadillas. The students in A6 have worked hard all year, so we finished the third quarter with plenty of fun and celebrations....They earned it!

"Everything is Awesome!"

"...Everything is cool when you're part of a team! Everything is awesome when we're living our dream!"
2nd graders learned how to play this song from "The Lego Movie" on ukuleles in Mr. Brett's class.

In addition to the photos below, students in A6 have recently been working hard on their Country Research Reports, learning about Emperor Penguins, performing "The Pine Park Mystery", a mini-play in Reading class, writing poetry, singing/dancing (ask your child to teach you "Jump Jim Joe"), starting to graph data, and more!

This week is all about Dr. Suess, books and reading...Enjoy dressing up!
Next week, Wednesday, is Makahiki Day. Please continue to raise money for our school. Mahalo!
